Any acne therapy must start with a good skin care regimen that includes salicylic acid and/or benzoperoxide. After controlling outbreaks with proper skin care, light therapy using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) is used enhance results.

When IPL is combined with ALA (aminolevulinic acid)/ Levulan, the results approach that achieved with Accutane™. With ALA porphyrins are activated and produce peroxide that destroys the bacteria causing acne. Usually 3 treatment sessions are recommended for optimal results.
